A Shepherd's Year developed out of a long standing friendship between the hill sheep farmers of the Carneddi Mountains in Snowdonia and photographer Nick Birch and his author wife Beverley. They spent many years recording and observing, and sometimes sharing the sheep farmers' lives. Nick started his photographic career in 1970 and works on a variety of commissions throughout the world. Beverley began writing for children in 1981. Discover is a series of books about the real world. Each one is based on personal experience. The books are illustrated in full colour, and are at once informative and highly enjoyable. They provide stimulating non-fiction reading for young children.
